THE ISSUE
Due to outmoded pump design and quality issues, a well-known North American manufacturer of oilfield vacuum pumps experienced a decline in sales and market share.
THE SOLUTION OF LODESTAR
Using the DMAIC paradigm, root cause analysis was carried out to determine the elements and locations that need design and manufacturing improvement.
Using the most recent design principles and techniques like CFD, the complete pump was redesigned, including important parts like the housing, rotor eccentricity, valves, and others.
▸ Created a novel design to stop catastrophic pump failures caused by liquid entering the pump, an issue that no manufacturer in the industry has been able to resolve.

RESULTS
▸ The design and manufacturing enhancements improved the pump’s performance by more than 50%, increasing its flow-rate from 310 CFM to over 452 CFM.
With the assurance that he now has the best-performing pump on the market, which is not only fail-safe but also has the greatest quality of ports, the customer was able to concentrate on increasing sales and gaining market share.
